Mīrāj by Injiri: The Poetry of Handcraft

Mīrāj

No map, no plan, just thread and time,
A journey woven, line by line.
Stitch by stitch, the hands did play,
Not knowing what would come their way.
A dance of cloth, a swirl of hue,
Shapes appeared, then faded too.
Like desert air, like fleeting light,
A vision formed, yet bright.
Surprise! A world we never guessed,
A joy we felt, a dream expressed.
No end in sight, yet here we stand,
Holding wonder in our hands.

Mīrāj by Injiri: Where Craft Meets Whimsy

There is a quiet power in Indian craftsmanship, a lineage of making that stretches back centuries, rooted in skill, patience, and imagination. Every weave, every dye, every stitch is more than technique; it is culture, memory, and identity, preserved in thread. In today’s world of fast fashion, these age-old practices are more than relevant; they are essential reminders of sustainability, community, and human touch.

Since its founding, Injiri has worked to celebrate and protect these living traditions while reimagining them for a modern global audience. Designer Chinar Farooqui approaches textiles not as surface decoration, but as vessels of history and meaning, working directly with artisans across India to preserve heritage while breathing new life into it. The result is clothing that feels both timeless and contemporary, earthy and effortlessly chic.

With Mīrāj, Injiri places Indian textiles firmly on the global map, not as relics of the past, but as evolving, dynamic expressions of design. This collection doesn’t follow sketches or rigid blueprints; it unfolds organically, like a mirage appearing in the desert. Piece by piece, stitch by stitch, Mīrāj captures the whimsy of discovery, where traditional crafts are transformed into silhouettes that speak a universal, modern language without losing their roots.

A Journey Through Craft

Mīrāj is a love letter to heritage techniques, reimagined for today’s world. Tukdi craft from Jaisalmer, Jamdani on wool, Bhujodi weaving, Bandhani tie-and-dye, Pashmina, and even knitting, each technique is explored with curiosity and a touch of surprise.

Tukdi Craft:

Tukdi Craf
Small fragments of fabric transform into bold, vibrant patterns, turning textile scraps into artful expressions of color and texture.
Jamdani on Wool:

Delicate motifs seem to float on the wool’s soft warmth, blending comfort with intricate beauty.
 Bhujodi Weaving:
Bhujodi Weaving:
Classic motifs meet abstract lines, creating rhythmic patterns that feel both grounded in tradition and refreshingly modern.
Bandhani & Clamp Dye:
Bandhani & Clamp Dye:
Wool absorbs dye in ways that surprise the eye, forming soft gradients and rich textures that delight in every fold.

Every piece of Mīrāj is handcrafted, a singular work of art. Slow-made, intentional, and alive with personality. It’s fashion as storytelling, each garment a chapter, each thread a whisper of a journey that began without a plan but ended in wonder.

Celebrating Mīrāj: The Event

To celebrate the launch of Mīrāj, House of Woven Stories hosted a special conversation between Chinar Farooqui, the visionary behind Injiri, and Arianne, founder of HER, a women’s health platform. The event was a gathering of craft lovers, storytellers, and curious minds, all eager to step behind the scenes of the collection.

Chinar shared the philosophy of Mīrāj, the thrill of experimentation, and the joy of watching heritage techniques come alive in new, playful ways. Arianne spoke about the importance of storytelling, wellness, and supporting creativity that nurtures both the maker and the wearer. Together, they explored how craft, care, and curiosity intersect to create fashion that is not only beautiful but meaningful.

In Zurich, Switzerland, the historic Hotel Storchen transformed into a sanctuary of craft, conversation, and community as House of Woven Stories unveiled its Fall-Winter collection featuring Miraj by Injiri

Glasses of wine were poured, the scent of creamy risotto filled the air, and conversations flowed as effortlessly as the river outside. Guests mingled, admired, and tried on pieces from the collection, with many falling in love and taking garments home with them, a tangible piece of heritage woven into their wardrobes.

At the heart of the evening was a captivating dialogue between Ariane, founder of the HER women’s health platform, and Chinar Farooqui, the woman behind Injiri. Their exchange was as fluid as it was profound, Ariane guiding the conversation with grace, and Chinar speaking with rare authenticity about her craft and philosophy.

Farooqui shared stories of Jamdani weaving, Tukdi techniques, and delicate silk embroidery so complex that it took four years for her artisans to master. Yet, she emphasized, her work is never about trends or the demands of the fashion calendar. Instead, her devotion lies with the craftsmen and women who carry these traditions forward:

“I do not think of the consumer,” she said softly. “I think of the craftsman. My work is about preserving techniques and repeating them in creatively new ways until they reach perfection.”

The room was enchanted not just by the beauty of the Miraj collection, but by the values it embodied. This was fashion as a living archive of craft, a celebration of slow, ethical, and sustainable design, rooted in India’s textile heritage and shared now with a global audience.
By the end of the night, guests left with more than just garments. They carried with them a deeper appreciation for the artistry behind each thread, and for the quiet revolution Injiri is leading: proving that true luxury lies not in novelty, but in craft renewed with creativity, patience, and love.
